The Word’s Out: True Blue Is Is Looking For Investors

May 12th, 2008

Well, we finally did it! True Blue Coffee Roasters has just put the word out that it’s looking for investors to finance True Blue’s next stage of growth. It’s been 2 incredible years of self-financed growth and we really want to see True Blue through until we’ve reached our ultimate goal- that True Blue Coffee Roasters becomes a common household name like McDonalds, Coke, and Nike.

This post isn’t really meant to be a shameless plug for investment capital. Needing investors is just the by-product of such a remarkable story that I thought it was fitting to write about it. First, True Blue started as sort of a hobby, which eventually became an expensive hobby. As our founders decided that True Blue deserved to become a full-fledged business, they put a management team together. And with that True Blue started selling thousands of pounds of Organic Fair Trade coffee…NOT! They were actually giving away more coffee than they sold, but one thing emerged- they had the desire to become big. It was more than a dream, they REALLY wanted it!

When I first talked to Richard Smith, True Blue’s CEO, it was spring 2007. I realized something then that still resonates in me, he really wanted success. And the same for Rob Luzader, our Chief Operations Officer, he really wanted success, too. It was addictive, being in contact with them made me want success for True Blue. I HAD to be involved, a part of their journey into what seemed like a sure bet. I found myself day-dreaming at times…True Blue Coffee Roasters would surely be big one day, much bigger that I could even imagine.

To make a long story longer, I did become more involved in True Blue (I became True Blue’s Chief Marketing Officer and one of the owners) and we have grown substantially. No, we are not a common household name, YET! But, we will be, it’s just a matter of time. And I can assure you we will not rest until then. You have my word on it.

So this post is actually intended for all those out there who have their own dreams and goals but are currently sitting on the fence…do you want success? Do you want it really bad? Are you willing to make sacrifices for it? If you’ve answered yes to all the previous questions then do something about. Don’t wait another day! I don’t care what your dream is, start working hard for it, today! I bet you’ll look back in a year and be amazed at the incredible progress you’ve made.

As one of those household names puts it, Just Do It!

Fair Trade Coffee Is Doing A World Of Good

May 7th, 2008

When I first became involved with True Blue Coffee Roasters I must say at first I was skeptical of Fair Trade. How could Fair Trade coffee really make a difference? Why do we pay so much for our green coffee beans? Maybe we should look for alternatives to Fair Trade coffee to cut costs? You name it, I thought it.

But, that was over a year ago…and my opinion has changed. Fair Trade coffee is making a difference regularly in the lives of people in developing countries. From helping small-scale farmers, their families, their communites, and the environment- Fair Trade truly does a world of good by guaranteeing that farmers and workers receive a fair price for their products.

Thanks to Fair Trade in the highlands of Guatemala, indigenous Tzutuhil Mayans in the La Voz cooperative are sending the local children to college for the first time. In Peru, the CECOVASA cooperative is assisting members from Quechua and Aymara indigenous groups in raising coffee quality and transitioning to certified organic production. In some countries, such as Colombia, Fair Trade has even helped prevent the cultivation of more than 1,600 acres of coca and poppy, used for the production of illicit drugs. These are only a few of the examples of how Fair Trade has benefited the local residents.

So the next time you buy coffee, look for the Fair Trade label, and be glad to know that your purchase is doing a world of good.
